Caribou - the safe kayak since 1979
The Caribou kayak was designed and developed by W&B Pettersson Caribou Design Co in 1979. Today, Marstrandskajaker manufactures the kayak from hand-laminated fibreglass, here in the local area.
The varied weather on the west coast has given the Caribou kayak its unique design. The kayak’s high and extremely V-shaped stems provide a very smooth and harmonious ride in the sea. Good buoyancy high up in the stems means the kayak does not dig in or go straight through the waves. The long-keeled hull construction provides superb course-keeping ability.
The kayak has minimal wind drift despite the high stems. This is due to the large keel effect. Additionally, the kayak is completely wind-balanced, which means it works very well without a rudder or skeg under normal conditions.
For paddling in strong winds or difficult sea conditions, we recommend a rudder system. The kayaks are among the most stable designs in their class.

The cockpit design makes it easy to exit, while also enabling Eskimo rolls and other demanding manoeuvres. Seating comfort is of a very high standard. The superior paddling comfort means you can spend many hours in the kayak without discomfort. The Caribou kayak’s carrying capacity, volume, functionality and range of use make it suitable for all paddlers.
